Background

Born and raised in Switzerland, I lived in the U.K. for a while before moving to San Diego on my own in 1992. The challenges and changes I faced have given me unique perspectives, insights, and experiences. Some of them are managing change, facing adverse situations, jump-starting and maintaining motivation, achieving emotional well-being, facing life transitions, and navigating layered cultural issues.

Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, my career path included positions with a variety of startup companies, executive positions in marketing, private education, and nonprofit consulting. In addition to a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology, I hold a Master’s degree in E-Commerce, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. This combination of education and experience, as well as exposure to different perspectives and mindsets, has allowed me to successfully relate to clients from varied backgrounds.

My training includes the Gottman Method for couples therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Seeking Safety Treatment, Substance Abuse and Co-Occurring conditions, issues pertaining to living with HIV, as well as LGBTQ related issues.

As a seasoned clinician, consultant, and trainer, my experience includes working with schools and community agencies, alcohol & drug treatment facilities, and residential treatment centers. I have worked with civilian and military individuals, couples, and families.

Training and Consulting

Prior to establishing Affirmative Counseling and Therapy, I supervised 10 clinicians as a clinical supervisor for the behavioral and mental health program of a 24-hour children’s emergency shelter. As an outgrowth of years of experience in the field, I provide trainings and presentations on mental health, co-occurring conditions, and treatment approaches to service providers, and have guest lectured at University of California San Diego (UCSD) and University of Southern California (USC) School of Social Work.

I also provide business consulting for individuals and organizations. I am a clinical member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT).

Acculturation Assistance

To assist and support individuals and organizations experiencing acculturation issues, I have partnered with my colleague Angela Wastrack, LCSW, to provide comprehensive acculturation assistance.

We offer a variety of services, including acculturation training, new-life coaching, individual, couples, and family counseling as well as transition preparation. For organizations, we provide employee training, coaching, and transition assistance for individuals, teams, and entire businesses. To find out more, please visit www.acculturationassistance.com.
